Africa Contemporary Record: Annual Survey and Documents, 1985-1986

Now in its eighteenth year, ACR remains the preeminent reference annual devoted to contemporary Africa. Each volume offers comprehensive coverage of the year’s events by distinguished scholars, journalists, and area experts, and each is extensively cross-referenced with preceding volumes in the series to create an invaluable ongoing reference library.
Part One of Volume XVIII features essays on recent events and longstanding issues. Colin Legum offers astute commentary on the continuing crisis in Southern Africa, emphasizing the increasing isolation faced by an embattled South Africa. Several essays analyze the economic problems resulting from political conflicts and environmental catastrophes, and others discuss the relations among various groups of Africans. The remaining articles in Part One focus on Africa’s relations with foreign powers, including Great Britain, China, West Germany, France, Latin America, the United States, and the Soviet Union.
